Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done; and there is no new thing under the sun.
Recently after preaching a message concerning the effectual, redeeming blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, I was asked this question: "What do you think about the millenium?" What I think is that everything that is true right now, has always been true, and will be true when the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, 1999. I think that the blood which I had just preached about will be the sinner's only hope of righteousness and favor with the holy God who created him. I think that I, if God be pleased to sustain me in that faith which He gave me, must and shall with all of my heart lay hold yet upon the Saviour who loved me and gave Himself for me. I think that my message, again by God's sustaining grace, will remain the same: that sinners outside of Christ are objects of God's hatred and wrath, but that God hath given unto us eternal life and this life is in His Son.
Some Say the millenium is a new beginning; others say, the end of the world. It is, of course, neither. This is another example of man attributing to objects or events that which is due unto God alone.
Are you interested in a new beginning? The year 2000 will find you in your sins just as did the year you were born if you know not Christ Jesus. The calendar will afford you no clean slate, no fresh start. This point in time will give you no power to reform yourself nor any other quality which you now lack. Look to Christ! All that you need is in Him. He is the new beginning; He can wipe your slate and create in you a clean heart... that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life Rom. 6:4. His precious, sin-atoning blood hath power to wash your sins away, past, present and future!
Are you looking for the end of the world? It is not a function of man's calendar, but of God and will take place according to His will. The Almighty One who created this universe and all of its inhabitants, holds it in His hands and will dispose of it as He sees fit. He made it for His own glory and for the purpose of redeeming to Himself a people and when the former is fully served by it and the latter is accomplished in it, He will conclude it and not a moment sooner or later. I only pray that when He does, the event shall, by His eternal, boundless grace, find me and you in the only safe refuge, the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
