This earthly journey is certainly a mystery. We come forth from our mother's womb and immediately the questions begin. Why was this baby bom with physical handicaps, when others are born perfectly whole? We grow some, and illness strikes. Why is my baby always sick? Growth continues, and it becomes evident that we will never be as "pretty" as the one down the street. Why is one, fleshly speaking, filled with talent and a bubbly, outgoing personality, while another is drab and withdrawn? Why did this happen and that happen? Well, our text says a man cannot find out.
Romans 11:36 has the answer: For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. AMEN. There is the answer to why. Life, death, health, sickness, riches, poverty, ugly, pretty, or what ever, is simply and completely for the eternal glory of the blessed Triune God. He has made all creation and all events to shine on the luster of His glorious, sovereign majesty, that His creatures might stand in awe of Him. Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the worm stand in awe of Him (Psahn 33:8).
To think that He has given His Son's blood to redeem sinners remains the greatest mystery.
