Recently, I received an appeal for help from a prison ministry. As a motivation to become involved, the appeal warned that if someone does not involve himself in such a ministry, his inheritance in the kingdom of God was put at risk. But, thanks be to God, the promise is SURE. It is of great comfort to know that the great work of eternal salvation does not, in any wise, depend on the efforts of sinners. All the conditions necessary to the salvation of God's people were met by Christ, AND THEIR SALVATION CANNOT BE PUT AT RISK UNTIL CHRIST IS PUT AT RISK! Any salvation that can be put at risk by the failures of sinners is a worthless salvation! A believer does not serve from a sense of legal fear, but from the love of Christ, which constrains him. Let us revel in the joy of knowing that we are saved beyond any possibility, of condemnation or loss; and let us go on to do good works because we love Him "who loved us and gave Himself for us."
