The prophet Nahum records a glorious truth which, if blessed to our hearts by the Spirit of God, will afford us great joy and comfort. He says, "The Lord knoweth… them that trust in Him." (Nahum 1:7) Those who are brought by omnipotent grace to truly "trust" God delight that they "know God" but more so that they are "known of God." It is His knowledge that saves, keeps and comforts the justified people of Christ. "By His knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many." Because of this, when we seem to know so little, for we "know nothing as we ought," the thought that He knows us, knows all about us, knows what we need and knows what to do is a great reason to trust Him. Christ said of His sheep, "I know them… and they shall never perish." His is a knowledge of intimate love and relationship. Even in times of apostasy and general hypocrisy, "the foundation of the Lord stands sure, having this seal, the Lord knows them that are His." Of all our needs Christ said, "The Father knows you have need of these things." In our trials and troubles we can say, "When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knowest my path." Christ will say to many who professed to do great things in His name, "Depart from me, ye that work inquity, I never knew you." But to His loved and chosen ones, His words are the same as they were to Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee…" He knows all who trust Him in Christ! Well did old Bradbury say:
