CHRIST-OUR MEDIATOR

Milton Howard

There is no doubt that the Lord was made flesh and dwelt among us. There is no doubt that God humbled Himself to the form of man and the death of the cross. Sin has made us horrible in the sight of God, and makes us fit for Hell alone, not for God's mercies. There is a justice which must be satisfied. The leasts in of which we are guilty deserves eternal death in Hell. "The wages of sin is death." There is nothing in us which can satisfy this justice. God's law condemns us, our consciences condemn us, and justice must and will be satisfied.

My soul stands in need of a Mediator to stand between me and God. If in me there is only wickedness and unworthiness, and in God there is only strict justice, holiness, and righteousness, and I know that I must stand before the infinite glory of God Himself, there is only despair for me, I have no hope. I can only cry, "O wretched man that I am." It would be better had I come into this world as a cockroach and not as a human being, for when that cockroach dies, that is the end of it, but the end of the unbelieving sinner is eternal torment in Hell.

"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners."
