There stands the cross of our crucified Lord, free to all who will look and be saved. But Almighty God has determined that He shall not have died in vain. There is a number, which no man can number, who shall, by His all-constraining grace, be brought to look to the blessed Redeemer and cling to Him as the hope of their souls. "He shall see of the travail of His soul and be satisfied," because God will, in the day of His power', make them willing to embrace, Christ Jesus. They are hardened in sin, but He can break their hearts; they are stubborn, but He can bend their knees; they will not come, but He can make them run to Christ willingly; He has the key that can wind up the human heart and make it run at His pleasure! When a man does wrong, it is because God has left him to himself; but as sure as a man DOES ANYTHING GOOD (especially believing truth), it is because the hand of the Master is upon him. The work of redemption is of our Lord in the planning, the procuring, the applying, and the maintaining of it. Leave a believer to himself to maintain the grace begun in him and he will fall (Phil. 1:6).
