"Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be." (I Cor. 7:25-26)
I can't think of anything that I'd rather tell a woman that has defiled herself in fornication than to say, "Every believer is a virgin". This text particularly applies to unmarried believers, and declares us clean regardless of what we've done in the flesh. And, what could be more glorious than telling a harlot that the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ puts away sin, makes sinners white as snow, and gives us the unstained nature of the risen Lord? What could be more glorious than bidding the lustful and degenerate into the grace of God? God Himself says, "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool (Is. 1:18)."
Don't reason with your conscience about how you can be clean. Don't reason concerning the lusts that remain in your heart. These will never be utterly vanquished until this body of sin returns to the dust. But, come afresh to God through Christ believing the testimony of the gospel, and you shall comprehend how God can call one like yourself a virgin. Ye are clean… not through your words, works, and feelings, but through the Word of grace that has come to you. In receiving the gospel of God's Son, you've received Him "through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth… to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ (II Thess. 2:13-14)." You believe because you're clean, and you are no longer a harlot but a daughter or a son. Therefore, no matter how depravedly you behaved yourself in times past and no matter how tempted you are to return, you're clean through grace.
And, the virginity of a cleansed woman is more glorious than the virginity of a woman that desires no cleansing. Our Lord Jesus said, (Luke 15:7) "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance."
