I have found over the years that sinners would have God speak peace to their souls before believing in His Son. "I will believe," they seem to reason, "when the Lord gives me joy and peace in my soul." But God will never speak peace to an unbelieving soul! There can be no reconciliation with God until the sinner agrees with God. There can be no peace with God until the sinner surrenders to God. There can be no joy from God until the sinner believes the testimony of God concerning His Son (I John 5:9-12).
Then the sinner may say, with the apostle Paul, "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded the he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day" (II Tim. 1:12). May God grant unto every reader of these words "joy and peace in believing" (Rom. 15:13).
