There are three primary lessons to be learned from our Scripture reading this morning.
1. Divine Power, verses 26-27. The Lord answered Jeremiah's prayer and reminded him of His unlimited ability. Not only is God almighty in creation, but He has all power over all flesh to give salvation to His chosen people. Nothing is too hard for our glorious Lord!
2. Divine Punishment, verses 28-35. Jerusalem would be overthrown and the Jews taken away into captivity because of their wickedness. Their demise pictured the fall of mankind into sin which resulted in the judgment of God.
3. Divine Promise, verses 36-44. Though all men have rebelled against God and deserve eternal wrath, there is a remnant according to the election of grace which will be saved in Christ Jesus. Just as God purposed to bring the Jews to their homeland again, so He has promised to save all of true Israel. The Lord has declared, "They shall be my people, and I will be their God." He will bring all of His scattered sheep out of spiritual captivity and into the liberty of Christ Jesus.
