The Gospel is glorious in respect of the chief subject thereof, JESUS CHRIST. First in respect of the excellency of His person. Had I the tongue of men and angels, I could not declare the hundredth part thereof; so far doth he excel in personal excellencies and perfections the children of men. What can one think of Christ, speak of Christ, hear of Christ, or read in the Holy Scripture of Christ but may affect our hearts? The Gospel is a glorious subject, but it is Christ who is the glorious subject of the Gospel: as all we have flows from or through the Gospel to us, so all the Gospel has in it, flows from Christ.
