"That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ (I John 1:3)."
The point of our fellowship with the Son of God is not in our sin; it is in His fullness. When the woman with the issue of blood came into contact with the Living Christ, it was not in her sin, it was in His power to cleanse. She came to Him because of her sin (so let your sin never keep you away), but she came to Him, made contact with Him, and began communion with Him in His grace. She came needy, and she met Christ the Provider and Supplier of all our need (Mark 5:25-34).
Sometimes we can't rise up to meet Him, so we fellowship in the fact that He meets us where we are. There was a blind man along the way, and the disciples rejected him; but the Son of God shows us that He came to manifest God's sovereign mercy. He met that blind man right square in his need, anointed his eyes, and then sent him away to see. Then, when religion rose up against his newfound sight, the Son of God came and comforted him with further revelations. That which was fuzzy became clear as light, and the Son of God delivered his oppressed child by gospel revelations (John 9:34-38).
And, this is what He always does for us. He meets us in His Word, in gospel preaching, in prayer, and in meditation. We come to Him and need Him because of our sin, but He does not commend us for our sin, instead He forgives us and cleanses us of our sin (I John 1:7) "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another [in the Light], and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin". Again, our sins are why we come; but Christ suffered and bled them away. Therefore, we fellowship with Him in the righteousness, completeness, and graciousness of His forgiveness. Our fellowship is in Him "God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord (I Cor. 1:9)."
Secondly, as believers, our fellowship with one another is not in our sin. We don't glory in our depraved nature. But, all things are to bring us to Christ "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed... (James 5:16)."
So, I say, rise up, and meet the Son of God, as you are, for what He has done. Are you naked and ashamed, then come for clothing. Are you weary, then come for strength. Are you rejected, then come for acceptance in your conscience. Are you struggling to find His will, then come to Him for wisdom and grace "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
