One cannot write enough laws to cover every situation any individual may encounter. Sometimes we may be at a loss to determine what is the right course of action to take, especially in the big decisions of life. However, if we honestly want to do what is right, the principles of the gospel do direct us in the right course.
1. "CAN IT BE DONE ACCORDING TO THE MASTER'S LAW OF LOVE?" Love is to be the guiding force in all we do: First, love to God and second, love to our neighbor. If what we purpose to do cannot be done as an expression of love, then we should not do it.
2. "WILL IT BE TO THE GLORY OF GOD?" (1 Corinthians 10:31). Will our course of action tend to make others have respect and honor for the God we worship? Just as the conduct of children is a reflection on their parents for good or bad, so is the conduct of God's children a reflection on their heavenly Father…
3. IS IT ACCORDING TO THE GOSPEL? Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, Philippians 1:27. Is the chosen course of action consistent with seeking first the kingdom of God? Will it make it easier or harder to worship with the saints? Does it show forth the Gospel principles of self-sacrifice and devotion to Him who loved us, and gave Himself for us?
