Even though she touched the Lord, the woman with the issue of blood feared. She thought she'd unlawfully polluted him. Under the law, whoever touched her was made unclean (Lev. 15:19-27). She thought that by touching the Lord Jesus Christ, her defilement would pass to Him. But, the Lord Jesus stopped her and declared that her faith… not her touch… had made her whole. She didn't have to touch him to receive the cleansing. The Father had already transferred her legal debt to the Lord Jesus Christ, and He was come to satisfy it. She thought to only touch the hem of His garment because she didn't want to give Him too much of her sin. However, the Father gave Christ all of her sin, and He willingly took it. He did not come to condemn the sinner; He came to be condemned for the sinner (John 3:17, 14).
Secondly, the Lord Jesus Christ WILLINGLY TOUCHED sinners. He touched the leper, He touched the dead man's casket, He touched Peter's sick mother, and He allowed the woman with the issue of blood to touch Him. The problem with sinners bearing guilt is NOT that Christ refuses them because of election. No one who comes is turned away. The problem is man's unwillingness to be saved by Christ's blood ALONE.
Thirdly, the problem with the saints of God and the whole matter of assurance is LOW ESTIMATION of the blood. If we trusted the blood more completely as the only ground of forgiveness and truly believed in the full forgiveness it provides, then we'd all enjoy more of the peace and liberty of assurance. God doesn't say, "Come because you've been a good boy". His Word says, (Heb. 10:19) "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus ". It is not that I have no sin or have done anything to minimize my shame in His sight; it is that the blood of Jesus Christ His Son is the sufficient payment for sin, so that God may rightly say, (vs17) "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more".
We are standing around outside of His presence afraid to enter in, when the sins that we think should keep us away have already been punished. Now, it is for you and I to approach Him believing the same. He says, (vs20) "By a new [Greek-freshly slaughtered] and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh". This NEW AND LIVING WAY is contrary to the Old Covenant; it is through a Living Person whom God has resurrected. In the Old Testament, the sinner would bring a sacrifice, and then some days or weeks later, he would come again with another victim. He had to bring a new offering because the old lost its value. Yet, by faith, the believer comes to God through the Lord Jesus Christ again and again, and His sacrifice is always fresh and always accepted.
UNBELIEF KEEPS US FROM ENTERING THE FULLNESS OF PARDON; WE SO LITTLE BELIEVE THAT it will produce TRUE godliness. We all know that holiness in conduct and hatred for sin ought be the affect of coming unto God. None of us wants to be licentious and use the blood of Christ to excuse our sins. So, in piety to God, we often stand outside of full forgiveness THINKING that this is the way best way to honor Him. But, it is a deception. Listen to our Master (Luke 7:41-43) "There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon [the Pharisee] answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged." The consecration my soul desires is found in the blood of pardon. This is a rule of the kingdom. The Holy Spirit works forgiveness (the proclamation of it) upon the soul, and this same Spirit that pronounces pardon, strengthens the new man to serve "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Gal. 5:22-23)." This is the fruit of men and women who know that they are not condemned.
This woman at our Savior's feet in Luke 7 had her great debt forgiven, and therefore she loved much (vs36-50). Therefore, if I you have much sin, and if you really want to serve the Son of God, then take your MUCH SIN to Him for pardon… "but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little (vs47)." Therefore, confess your sin to be what it is, and receive the fullness of pardon.
