How refreshing to a child of God it is to hear the glorious Gospel of Grace. A gospel that would reveal the Father having elected a people from the foundation of the world, the Son who would lay down His life for those that the Father had given Him, and the Holy Spirit who would effectually call those elect unto salvation. No man in his fondest dream could have imagined the beauty or the depth of the love that God had for those found in His Son; elect from the foundation of the world.
How amazing that God would reveal Himself to a lost generation by the preaching of the Gospel. A Gospel which softens rebellious hearts and causes men to look unto the Son and live.
But just as amazing as seeing this gospel take an old hard heart and melt it as the warmth of the sun melts fresh, fallen snow; it's to see how men hate to hear this gospel that declares God to be just and sovereign, to do with men as He pleases. A gospel that abases man, plunging him in the dust before God, striping him of pride and demanding that he bow before the Lordship of Christ or be forever separated from God. Yes, amazing to see how men hate a gospel that reveals the Son to be the only source of satisfaction to the Father, and one that places man's righteousness in the same category as the filthiest of rags used to ease the most putrefying of human diseases.
Men will embrace any preaching that portrays God to be standing at the door of their heart begging for anyone to give Him a chance to save them. Men will grasp a message that pats them on the back and elevates them to such a standing before God as to allow them to walk, as Enoch did, into the very presence of the "I Am." But preach the truth and proclaim God as He is revealed in the Word and ffien will not only hate the God of the Bible, they will with pride hate anyone that preaches that Exalted One.
All the while they think that they will have done God a service by removing a heretic, a scatterer of the sheep; justifying their actions all along by saying, "MY Bible doesn't say anything about a God like that."
Oh, today sinner if you will hear His voice, harden not your heart. And may the God of glory be pleased to reveal Himself to us, a peopie of unclean lips.
