"He feedeth on ashes He feedeth on ashes: a
deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul,
nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?" Isaiah
44:20.
I heard a faithful preacher say one time there is but
one true religion that satisfies, the rest are ashes. It is an awful experience
to be laden with a religion that cannot save, I’m sure. To be bound
by a doctrine of vanity that does not satisfy the deepest needs of the
soul must be a grief. Imagine the futility and emptiness of those
that bow to Buddha , Allah and all the other idols of the pagan religious
world. These idols have no power at all. They see not, they
hear not, neither do they speak, nor do they understand. They never
answer back. Yet their devotees are so committed to them that they must
deceive their own hearts ‘ these are our gods’ and so they cannot deliver
themselves. Pagan religion is feeding on ashes!
And yet more astonishing are the ashes of Christendom
upon which the vast majority feed. Isaiah said they labor feverishly
with the tongs and hammer and coals to create an idol in the image of a
man. And yet are not these our present day liberal theologians manufacturing
a man centered religion to bow down and call upon it to deliver them?
Has he not used man in the same way this impoverished
heathen used the stock of a tree? Men are slaves, servants and guinea
pigs of every scientific dog trail. Has he not at the expense of
hundreds of thousands of souls exercised his military to their destruction
for his sport? Does he not warm himself also and satisfy his soul
upon the labors of men?
And then, in extreme incomprehensible madness, bow down
to that same man and say ‘deliver me’ you are my GOD! What religion
is this you say?
Your all encompassing world wide freewill works religion,
a doctrine of vanity! All that feed upon them feedeth upon
ashes.
