If there is one thing that I have attempted to accomplish in my own heart and the hearts of others, it is great reverence for the NAME of the Almighty. Be very careful how you use His Holy Name, lest you be guilty of despising the command, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" (Exo. 20:7). God requires that the majesty of His Holy Name not be violated by any. His Name must not be used with contempt, irreverence, nor needlessly. In our ordinary speech and in our worship nothing must enter that in any way lowers the great dignity and the high holiness of that Name.
In Exo. 20:24 the Lord says, "In all places where I RECORD MY NAME I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee." Does God record His name in ordinary places of human activity, such as carbumpers or windows, shirts, walls of buildings, etc.? Oh, no! His name is to be reverenced, not used so profanely. Anyone with any spiritual wisdom is sickened by religion's use of the Name.
It is utter blasphemy for any man to call himself "reverend" or to allow anyone else to do so. Why? "Holy and REVEREND is His name" (Psalm 111:9). This is the only place in the Bible where this word is used. The Almighty is the only "Reverend."
I know it's popular to use the Name of God or Jesus to show how holy we are. DON'T DO IT!
