To attempt to describe God without declaring His holiness and sovereignty is like trying to describe Mt. Everest without mentioning its height. To say it is beautiful, majestic, awesome, etc., would come far short of telling what it is really like. But to say it is over 29,000 feet high, higher than any other mountain, and many have perished while attempting to climb it, NOW you have come close to describing the glory of that mountain. And to say that God is love, mercy, grace, etc., without mentioning His holiness and sovereignty is coming far short of His essential glory. But if you say, "God is of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity" (Hab. 1:13) and "God will by no means clear the uilty" (Exo. 34: 7) and "I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand" (Deut. 32:39), NOW you are much closer to declaring the God of the Bible.
Yes, the true God, the God of the Bible is much different from the god being described and believed today. God's indictment against this and other generations is, "THOU THOUGHTEST I WAS ALTOGETHER SUCH A ONE AS THYSELF" (Psa. 50:21-), "But I will reprove thee," He says. Salvation is to be reproved of Who He is NOW! Salvation is to know and worship the true and living God right now! Someday everyone will know Him and see Him "AS HE IS." But for many it will be everlastingly too late!, Do you know, worship, and love the HOLY AND SOVEREIGN GOD OF SCRIPTURE?
