How thankful God’s people are that God’s love is immutable (never changing). For the child of God, it is no problem to see that if God loves him, it is an act of His sovereign will and that He chooses the objects of this love.
He set His love upon us when we were unlovely. A man who falls in love with a woman does so because of something he sees in that woman. However, God set His love upon His people when there was nothing at all attractive about them.
When God determines to do something, He does it and nothing can thwart His purpose. God never “falls out of love” with His people. Those for whom Christ laid down his life must be brought into His kingdom for “He shall see of the travail of His soul and be satisfied.” Christ cannot deny Himself. Those to whom He manifested His great love, by His death, He will bring to faith and life in Him.
