If I were to ask if you were a Christian, what would be the immediate response of your mind? What is the first thing that comes to your mind? What is your first thought? Are you thinking of the past or the present? Must you draw present security from thoughts of past decisions or experiences?
I press the issue because I believe that many are deceived by Satan, and I would not have any of you to be among the deceived. There are many in religion who look upon repentance as some isolated experience of long ago, and who look upon faith only in reference to a "decision" which they made at that time. Such people, dear souls, have never seen the real problem, the true nature of sin; and consequently, have never known true biblical repentance and faith. The child of God does not look back to a time of repentance, but lives in a state of repentance. He does not look back to a time when he believed, but is concerned with believing and trusting Christ today. Do not ever go back for assurance. It is today!
