THE CALL

Paul Mahan

I don't know about you, but I much prefer a specific call to a general one any day. Have you ever received a general invitation from someone in this manner? .... "We want to have you over sometime" or "Why don't you all drop by for a visit?" Most of the time they don't really mean it but are merely being polite. The kind of call I prefer is when someone says, "We want you to come over for dinner on Saturday night at 7 o'clock. Everything will be ready." That is a specific call, one that makes you feel welcome and wanted.

The call of God in salvation is no mere general one, nor is it a mere invitation, but a powerful summons by the omniscient God to "Come, for all things are ready." He prepared the Lamb. He elected those who would come, he calls them through the Gospel, and they all come; welcome, wanted, and willing ..... "in the day of His power" Psalms 110:3.
