"GO TO THE ANT, THOU SLUGGARD"
Proverbs 6:6-11

Jim Byrd

A portion of our Scripture readirg for today (Proverbs 6:6-11) is a condemnation of the slothful. This is a stern rebuke directed toward those who refuse to work because they are lazy. These are admonished to consider the industrious ant who labors in the summer to make provision for the winter. While this is an obvious reproof of those who are physically idle, there is a much more important spiritual lesson to be learned from these verses. These are words of warning directed toward those who are spiritual sluggards, who are living only for today, who give no consideration to death, judgment end eternity. The ant makes preparation for the winter. Are you giving forethought to the hereafter? You who live only for the short summer of life, what provision are you making for the long, long winter of eternity? Is there a righteousness to be had? Is there forgiveness for vile sinners? Is there a Savior to be sought after? Do not idle, but seek the Lord while He may be found. Go to the ant thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
