The Bible nowhere states, nor does it anywhere imply, that the Lord Jesus Christ shed his blood to redeem and save every person in the world. The plain statements of Scripture teach us that Christ died to redeem the souls of his elect, and only his elect - "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree"(Gal. 3:13). "By his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us"(Heb. 9:12). Our Lord himself declared, "I lay down my life for the sheep." Then he turned to the unbelieving Pharisees, and said, "Ye are not of my aheep"(John 10:15,26). In essence, he was saying, I will lay down my life as a sin-atoning redemption only for my sheep, those who hear my voice, believe on me, and have eternal life by my grace. I do not believe that doctrine which says, "Jesus died to redeem those who are in hell, just as much as he died to redeem those who are in heaven." The Bible never teaches such blasphemy. The Lord Jesus Christ did not simply make redemption a possibility for all men, leaving it in the hands of man's free-will to comply with his work and make it effectual. Our Lord Jesus Christ has actually accomplished the eternal redemption of all his elect, guaranteeing by his blood our ultimate salvation. All of those who are ultimately saved by Christ, and only those, were redeemed by his blood.
2. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS REDEEMED THE BODIES OF HIS ELECT.
Soon death shall be forced to give back its prey. Jesus Christ has purchased my body as well as my soul; and what he has purchased he must have! Death shall not have one particle of our dust. Not even one hair of our heads shall be lost. Think of it! When Christ returns, the trump shall sound, and the dead bodies of Christ's redeemed ones, his "purchased possession", shall be raised up in perfect glorification. My body, as well as my soul has been purchased by the blood of the Son of God! "I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: I fhom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another, though my reins be consumed within me"(Job 19:25-27).
3. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS REDEEMED FOR HIS ELECT ALL THAT WE LOST BY THE FALL 0F OUR FATHER ADAM.
Having died upon the cross as our Substitute, he declared, "Then I restored that which I took not away"(Ps. 69:4). I have a controversy with my father Adam. In him I suffered a mighty loss. But the second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ, my covenant Head and Representative has restored all that I lost in Adam, and more. He has given me perfect innocence, righteousness, acceptance with God, and eternal life.
4. AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS REDEEMED THIS WORLD.
Christ has purchased the right to rule over this world as the Mediator-King, to accomplish the salvation of his elect. He said, "Father, the hour is come: glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him" (John 17:1-2). And Christ has redeemed this earth, God's creation, from the curse of sin. Soon, he will make all things new. This world shall be restored to its prestine beauty; and righteousness shall flourish in the earth. "Because the creation itself also shall be delivered into the glorious liberty of the children of God"(Rom. 8:21).
