THE DISTINCT PERSONALITY OF THE SON
1 John 5:7

Don Fortner

"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." –1 John 5:7

Being the eternal Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ is a person distinct from the Father and the Spirit. Many deny that there are three distinct Persons in the Godhead. They teach that the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are merely different names and offices for one Person, and that Jesus is all three. This "Jesus only" heresy is just as deadly as the denial of our Savior's Deity, for it reduces the whole covenant of grace to a redundant, meaningless play on words.

Jesus Christ our Lord is the express image of the invisible God, and the whole revelation of the triune godhead. He declares, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father" (John 14:9). Yet, he is a distinct person from the Father and the Spirit. The Scriptures clearly reveal the distinct personality of the Son. Here are ten points of distinction between the Persons of the Trinity.

We worship one God in the trinity of his Sacred Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
