New Year's Resolutions are both vain and foolish. But as we look over the days gone by and the days yet to come, the spiritual man can easily find much for which to give thanks and stir up holy desires in his heart. Let me share some things that make the anticipation of the New Year happy to me.
Looking Back Over The Past, My Soul Rejoices In God's Covenant Mercy "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles."
My Soul Is Confident Of God's Care For His Own. "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them."
It Is My Desire. The Coming Year, To Exalt; The Name Of Christ More Than Ever. "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth, My soul shall make her boast in the Lord." My heart desires to bless the Lord at all times by living in constant confidence upon Christ. May it please the Lord to sanctify these lips to speak continually of the praise of Christ. My very soul boasts and glories in Christ, who is my wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. I will tell out the praises of our King to saints and poor sinners alike, and "the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad."
Brethren, My Heart's Desire Is That We May Be United In This Noble Cause. "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together." Let us this day put aside every petty hinderance, and magnify the Lord together. If such is our purpose, the New Year will be happy indeed!
