"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."
Like the "hail Mary" pass, when a team has no option but that, you and I only have Christ. We either trust Him to care for us, or we die.
The consequences of unbelief are too great: they are death and a life of sin. They are rebellion. We can blame God and die, we can quit and die, or we can believe on Christ MORE than ever before and rely on Him alone.
Make Christ the keeper of your soul. Make Him the One that saves, and don't put any power, might, or goodness on you. You and I don't conquer because we're good. If that were so, then we wouldn't need Him as Mediator, nor as strength. We could stir up ourselves like Samson and get the job done.
But, because we are impotent and desirous of holy living, we look to the Lord. When the tempter tempts, we look to Christ and find things in God Almighty to deliver us. It is WHO He is, what HE does, and what HE has said that saves us. We trust Him, and then He performs what He's trusted to perform.
In Acts 10:38, we have hope. Scripture says that He "went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him", so that the evidence that God was with Him is the GOOD that He does to sinners. Thus, Christ's help for sinners is clear, and we're to believe on it for our benefit. If He helped the strong, cared for the worthy, and did good to those who needed very little help, then we'd have no hope with God. Our sins would condemn us.
Most think that Christ helps those that need no help. Or, they think that He doesn't help at all, that He leaves us alone, the slaves of sin, that He doesn't give us obedience to His word as the ESSENCE of faith. But, they are not wise in this. The Lord Jesus, the Lord of Glory, as EVIDENCE of His power does GOOD to sinners and He saves in word and deed. He changes our standing with God, and He changes our conduct before others (Luke 19:8-10). He makes us ACCEPTED of God, and then He makes us loving to men. He fixes what is broken, heals the sick, and raises the dead. He gives actual life and saves.
We believe on this Christ when things are dark, when Satan oppresses, and when disappointments and failure seemingly triumph over us. In all these things, we look to a Lord who does good to the oppressed, we expect His help, and therein, we receive.
You and I are NOT too sinful to be saved, and we're not too weak to be helped. We are the ones He died for, if we believe.
