"That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus."–Eph 2:7
Through Christ alone, we are blessed. God will never look upon us favorably, except through Christ. And, in Christ, He looks no other way. Before every hardship and tear, He sees the covenant of His grace & deals with us in Christ.
In eternity of old, He predestined our end and made sure that we would reach it (Rom 8:29). Yet, every tear of sin and every grief of woe was given to us in Christ. We despised Him, but He loved us. We looked at Him in hate, and He looked upon us in love, loving us while we were yet sinners. Then, He put our sins away, redeemed us, and made us whole, so that we're new.
We are SINNERS in our sight before God. Paul didn't call the saints sinners, but he referred to himself in the present time as "chief" of sinners, "nothing", and "less than the least of all the saints". This language is not for other saints; it is for himself. Likewise, each believer sees himself a sinner, and is forgiving to others who believe and believe not. We see what men are from afar, but we see ourselves intimately and know our failures daily (Rom 7:22). These things produce praise to God who saves us for Christ's sake, continually.
Heaven will declare His love. God gave His Son to die, so what He has to give in the "ages to come" must be good: it must be the riches of grace unimagined. Scripture says, "the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us", which is what we have to look forward too.
Look at God now and see Him this way: gracious and kind to you, and glorifying that grace through Christ.
If you think that grace is glorified through you, then you'll be dejected and downcast. But, if you know grace is through Christ, then you'll be exalted by His merits. God's goodness to you, in spite of and in the teeth of sin, will be expected.
